Overview
Naka Izu is the birthplace of tatami-ishi wasabi cultivation, a method that relies on crystal-clear spring water and volcanic soil. We’ll begin at the Izu Wasabi Visitor’s Center, where you’ll learn how this delicate plant became one of Japan’s culinary treasures. From there, we’ll visit wasabi fields, walk along the Jizodo River, where waterfalls and a lush forest invite you to slow down and immerse your senses.
This tour is about more than food or scenery — it’s about understanding how geography, tradition, and resilience shape rural life in Izu. In the small village of Warabo, you’ll meet the community that has nurtured wasabi for centuries and experience the quiet rhythm of life in the mountains.
If you’d like to go deeper, consider the Full Day Private Tour, where Naka Izu can be paired with fishing villages, coastlines, or hidden shrines for a fuller picture of Izu.
